SUMMARY:Khyber Cup - Over-the-Board!
DESCRIPTION:The infamous Crowthorne Chess Club summer mini-tournament\, the KHYBER CUP\, will be next Sunday\, the 29th August. This will be at the Bar & Café in the Pinewood Centre off New Wokingham Road/Peacock Lane in Crowthorne. Doors open at 10am and play will start not long after that\, once we’ve set everything up. We aim to finish approaching 4pm\, with a break for lunch. \nTo make the organisation slightly less chaotic than it would otherwise be\, could you let Jonathan know whether you plan to attend or not. DESCRIPTION:Jonathan has set up the Khyber Cup for Saturday 5th September\, 14:00\, and has provided the followng details. Please see his email for more information. \nThis is a 5 round Swiss\, with 10m+5s time control and a couple of minutes between rounds for a breathing space. \nThere is a Zoom session available for those who want to talk between rounds. Note that you should mute and turn off your speaker when playing to avoid being distracted. Nonetheless\, avoid commenting on people’s in-progress games just in case they still have their speaker on. \nThis is a friendly event; please feel free to invite friends and family to join. Note that it is only open to members of the Crowthorne Team on Lichess. If you or your invitees\, are not members you will have to join first (and to do that you will need a lichess membership). \nTo find Crowthorne chess club on lichess\, from the lichess banner click “Communities” followed by “Teams” and search for Crowthorne. DESCRIPTION:It’s December\, nearly\, and Christmas is not far off\, which means our annual Christmas handicapped mini rapid play tournament is coming up. We have the Wellington social club\, Napoleon’s Retreat\, booked for the Friday before Christmas \,that’s Friday 20th December. \nYou all know the format (basically it’s a speed handicapped event where anyone can win). It helps me enormously in preparation to know who is attending\, and who is not\, so please do let me know. \nWe usually start at 7:30 and probably will do so again this time\, but if there are many attendees\, like there have been in recent years\, then we may need to get going a little earlier\, 7pm. \nLet me know if your intentions\, and I will send out reminders from time to time.
