[Event "Border League"]
[White "Johnson, DR."]
[Black "Golding, A."]
[Result "1-0"]
1.e4 c5 2.b4 cxb4 3.Nf3 Qc7? {Derek gives this move a question mark, and I can do no less.}
4.a3 e5 5.axb4 Bxb4 6.Ba3 Ba5? {
Alex’s third move indicated that he was unfamiliar with the Sicilian Wing
Gambit, and this move underlines it, falling somewhere between unwarranted optimism and an error of judgment.}
7.Bd3 Nc6 8.O-O Nf6 9.Nc3 Bxc3 10.dxc3 d6 11.Bb5 Nxe4 12.Re1
f5 ?! { This move could be construed as asking for trouble. You can see Black’s point,
however. He’s been caught unawares in the opening, and after a series of odd
moves finds himself in a very bad position. So he might as well have some material to show for it.}
13.Rxe4 fxe4 14.Bxd6 Qb6 15.Bxc6+ Qxc6 16.Nxe5 Qxc3 17.Ra3 {
This is by far the strongest move in this position, and is essentially the
winning move, driving Black’s Queen out of play, and appreciating that White
still has time to make a bolthole for his King against back rank threats.}
Qb2 18.h3 h5 19.Rb3! {
This drives Black’s Queen further away, but for a specific reason. White wants
to play his next move without allowing Black to Qc1+ and Qf4+ defending f7 in particular and the K-side in general.}
Qa2 20.Qd5 {Black resigned. A beautiful attacking game,} 1-0
